News Flash: Albert Mohler Forced To Take Off His Suit!!

God works in mysterious ways. I have always insisted that the suit and tie was invented by demonically inspired men who think that being uncomfortable is cool. Well, it just so happens that one of my heroes of the faith, the ever suit and tie wearing Dr. Albert Mohler, has finally been forced to take off his suit--he actually traded it in for a gown.

Some of you may already know, but it seems that Mohler came pretty close to death over the Christmas holidays. You can read about his medical crisis here (article here). His article on his ordeal is worth the read. Thankfully, he is now okay. But according to his own testimony, he came awfully close to death. Being forced to wear a hospital gown was very humbling for a man who has more suits than any human being alive.

Rumor has it, that his excessive wearing of suits actually led to his medical condition. Either way, we are grateful to have him back in good health. Perhaps, he will now be less inclined to wear suits.

Good post - I am very glad he is OK. Mohler's compulsively dapper and dignified appearance is a common topic among my friends. His mention of the undignified hospital gown was interesting.

Maybe the "excessive suit wearing" you mention will lead to a permanent doctor-ordered change in clothing: "Your suit days are over! And those neckties are cutting off your air! It will be overalls and tee shirts from now on, Al"

Then the doctor looks at his dapper feet: "And those fancy too-tight, too-shiny shoes are adding to the stress! Take 'em off and go barefoot!"

Then all of Mohler's impressive and expensive tailored business sttire will be auctioned off on ebay to raise funds for Southern Seminary scholarships.

I would galdly bid for one of Mohler's pinstriped suits and maybe a couple of his fancy ties and some silk socks and cufflinks. Having a pair of his mirror-shined italian wingtips might change my life: literally stepping into his shoes, etc.

I can't see him enjoying the makeover at first: to go from pintripes to overalls will be change, but a humbled, barefoot, overalls wearing Mohler might make the Southern Baptists the denomination of choice for the emergent church.

Well, it's an idea anyway!

What if Mohler traded his suits in for the hippy look. That would be cool.

Mohler as a hippy! That would work and he would reach a lot of people he doesn't now with his messages, which are very good. Mohler doesn't have to be well-dressed to reach people. For me, the dapper "coporate executive" look gets in the way.

Swapping the suits and silk ties for tie-dye and jeans is a good idea, but convincing him to stop getting haircuts and to throw away his razor will be as tough as getting him to stop wearing suits and wingtips!
